Laser Skin Rejuvenation Treatments

UltraPulse

The UltraPulse fractional CO2 laser system offers 3 different treatment options – ActiveFX™, DeepFX™, and TotalFX™ - to completely resurface the skin and treat sun spots, age spots, uneven texture, fine lines, wrinkles, surgical scars and acne scars. Dr. Bonakdar was the first physician in Corona Del Mar and the second physician in all of Orange County to offer this new treatment. Fractional laser resurfacing in Newport Beach treats about 80% of the skin, leaving microscopic bridges of untreated skin behind to promote quick healing.

Your comfort before, during and after treatment is Dr. Bonakdar's priority. Multiple steps are taken to ensure you have a pleasant experience. A topical anesthetic cream is applied to the treatment area for about an hour prior to treatment. Optional oral pain medications and anti-anxiety medications are offered to decrease discomfort and apprehension. During the treatment, the Zimmer Medical Air Cooler is utilized to blow cold air onto the treatment area, bringing down the temperature of the skin prior to each pulse. The treatment takes approximately 30 to 40 minutes.

Noticeable results appear when you heal and continue to improve over the next 3 to 6 months.

Fraxel re:store DUAL

The Fraxel re:store DUAL laser can achieve improvement for Irvine and other Orange County patients with wrinkles, pigmented lesions (such as age spots), uneven texture, melasma, and acne scars. With two different wavelengths to address the superficial and deeper skin, Fraxel DUAL safely treats the face, neck, chest, hands, forearms, arms and legs. Like UltraPulse, Fraxel DUAL is a fractional resurfacing technology, meaning it treats a fraction of skin in the targeted area each time. Generally three to five treatments spaced 3 weeks apart are recommended.

Prior to your Fraxel procedure in Newport Beach, topical anesthetic is applied. You will also have the option of oral medication. During the procedure, as the Fraxel handpiece is passed over the skin, an air cooler will blow cold air onto the treatment area. Treatment typically takes 30 to 40 minutes.

Clear + Brilliant™

Prior to your laser treatment in Orange County, your skin is evaluated and the laser is adjusted to meet your precise needs. During the treatment, the device uses a patented Intelligent Optical Tracking System to deliver consistent, precise laser energy to the targeted areas, gently resurfacing the skin. This relaxing procedure usually takes about 20 to 30 minutes and is safe for all skin types.

We will discuss a customized treatment regimen with you, and typically recommend a series of 4 to 6 sessions spaced 2 weeks apart. After the desired improvement has been achieved, regular maintenance treatments and/or clinical facials can extend the benefits.

PDT

PDT is a two-part process that can achieve color correction and superficial skin resurfacing. This treatment can improve the condition of sun damaged and pigmented skin, as well as treat poor skin texture, fine lines, mottled skin tone, acne, rosacea, enlarged pores, and acne scars. PDT can also remove some pre-cancerous lesions.

During the first phase of PDT treatment, a photosensitizing agent is applied to the skin. This solution is absorbed by the damaged cells, making them sensitive to the laser light. Dr. Bonakdar uses a newer, less aggressive topical cream called Allumera® for this process. Although gentle, Allumera has been proven to provide better absorption of the laser's energy with minimal downtime and significant results, such as smoother, younger-looking facial skin. Allumera also offers the following benefits:

• Less prominent lines and wrinkles
• Refreshed, glowing skin

After Allumera has been absorbed, it is activated by a laser light treatment. Because cells affected by conditions such as acne and sun damage are more highly photosensitized, these cells are targeted by the light and are shed - allowing healthy cells to replace them.

Typically, fewer PDT treatments are needed than IPL. A series of 2 to 3 treatments spaced 2 to 3 weeks apart is generally recommended. After the desired improvement has been achieved, yearly maintenance treatments can prolong results.

IPL

IPL in Newport Beach is used for color correction. These treatments are safe and effective for the face, neck, chest, back, hands, arms, and legs. During the procedure, light energy is absorbed by the pigmented components of the skin. After a series of treatments, patients will notice improvement in age spots, sun spots, melasma, ruddy complexion, rosacea, and broken capillaries.

Prior to IPL photorejuvenation in Orange County, CA, the targeted area is numbed with a topical anesthetic cream. During the treatment, cool ultrasound gel and an air cooler provide additional comfort. The procedure typically takes 20 minutes. A series of 3 to 5 treatment sessions spaced 2 to 3 weeks apart is typically recommended. After the desired improvement has been achieved, maintenance treatments are usually performed quarterly or yearly.

After Treatment

Recovery differs depending upon the method of skin rejuvenation.

• After Clear + Brilliant, most patients experience minimal downtime. You can expect mild redness and swelling for 1-2 days followed by mild exfoliation for 1-2 days. Repeat treatments lead to gradual resurfacing and younger, more vibrant skin.
• With UltraPulse FX, expect 7 to 10 days for recovery. You will be instructed how to take care of your skin at home and you will be followed closely in the office to ensure rapid healing.
• After Fraxel, 5 to 7 days of dryness and peeling follow. This downtime can be managed and shortened with proper skincare.
• Generally there is no downtime with IPL. With mineral makeup our Newport Beach clients return to their usual activities right away. Over the course of several days, the pigmented area will become darker and then slough off with washing.
• PDT results in minor downtime due to mild irritation, dryness, and peeling for 2 to 5 days.
